ORIGIN

Marsannay is the most northerly village on the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, just after Dijon. Marsannay is the only local appellation to produce wines in all 3 colours: red, white and rosé. Recognised as the gateway to the Côte de Nuits, the appellation area covers the communes of Chenôve, Marsannay-la-Côte and Couchey.

From north to south, the vines grow on the best parts of the hillside and foothills (between 255 and 390 metres altitude), with exposures ranging from due east to due south. All of this on a wide variety of soils dating from the Middle Jurassic period: bedded sandstone, Entroques limestone, Oestra acuminata marl, the old Ouche river bed or alluvial pebbles...

VINIFICATION AND MATURING

The hand-picked harvest is sorted on arrival at the winery before being completely destemmed and then cold-macerated (temperature maintained between 8 and 10°C) for 4 to 6 days. This is followed by 12 days' fermentation in stainless steel vats, with two pump-overs and two punch-downs per day. The wine is then placed in oak barrels (30% new oak) to mature for several months on fine lees.

Vintage : 2023

The 2023 harvest in Burgundy was influenced by a contrasting climate. The mild winter gave way to a rainy spring, leading to episodes of mildew which required increased vigilance. The summer, marked by heat waves in July and August, exacerbated water stress, especially in shallow soils, despite sporadic rainfall in September. These conditions favoured slow ripening, which varied from one terroir to another. Yields were slightly below the ten-year average due to spring diseases and summer drought, with smaller but concentrated berries.

The harvest, which began at the end of August for the crémants and lasted until mid-September for the reds, took place in dry weather, enabling a precise harvest. The quality of the grapes was excellent overall: the whites showed a balance between lively acidity and sugar, with fruity and white flower aromas, while the reds, rich in polyphenols, had silky tannins and a promising structure. The tasting notes highlight the freshness of the whites (citrus, gunflint and spice notes) and the complexity of the reds (cherry, raspberry, liquorice and smoky nuances). Despite the climatic challenges, 2023 promises to be a vintage of great finesse, combining power and elegance.
